Paisley Art Institute's Historic Collect
Unveiling the Artistic Legacy of Glasgow and Paisley
Event Description
Discover the Paisley Art Institute's historic collection, now beautifully displayed at the prestigious Glasgow Art Club. Begin your luxury morning tour from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a light lunch of soup and sandwiches in the club’s exclusive surroundings. Guests are welcome to linger and explore further after lunch. This is because the 136th open Annual Exhibition is on from 28th April till 31st May Explore the Mackintosh Keppie Gallery as you uncover the rich connections between Paisley, and the Glasgow art club, and the iconic Glasgow School of Art. The display features historic exquisite works, including: Portrait of a Lady by David Alison, a 1921 oil painting of the artist’s wife, reflecting his classical training at the Glasgow School of Art. The collection contains gifts from living artists of note, as with 'Paisley Head' by Tom Allan, a marble sculpture combining traditional stonework with modern abstract influences, evoking the town’s famous paisley motif. The Exile by John Blair, a self-portrait of this prodigious talent who tragically passed away at the age of twenty. These and many more incredible pieces from renowned artists such as James Elder Christie's Red Fisherman. Glasgow boy, George Henry’s portrait of John Millar, PAI 's longest serving president is a highlight. Our famous guest artist this year will be Lavery, who, though Irish, lived in Glasgow and Paisley before moving to London where he was able to be influential in the Irish Question whilst becoming a celebrated portrait painter. More about this from your tour guide. Come prepared to spend the day as there will be plenty to see both historic and contemporary. All the main floor will be dedicated to our annual exhibition, while the upstairs area will be transformed into a dining space. Experience it all in style! Book your tour today and be part of something truly exceptional!
